Managing Virtual Teams in Asia

A workshop designed to give the participants a brief cultural orientation of the host country      they are visiting.

Rationale

Recent surveys have indicated that the success of overseas assignments, particularly in Asia, is very much dependent on the "culture factor". For the executive about to commence overseas postings or business assignments in Asia, our pre-departure briefings is a personalised and comprehensive program which is customised to meet individual needs and time commitments.

Workshop Objectives

At the end of the briefing session, executives will be more effective in performing their roles in the host country. This will be achieved by gaining :

- A wider perspective of the host country's culture and people

- An awareness of the ways culture influences attitudes and behaviours

- An understanding of cross-cultural management and communication issues pertinent to that
  host country

- Knowledge, information and skills to anticipate and avoid cross-cultural communication
  breakdown.

Session Structure

The briefing sessions are structured for maximum relevance and convenience to the person concerned. Spouses and children accompanying the departing executive may attend all or part of the sessions. Alternatively, separate sessions can arranged for the family.
Briefing sessions can be of one day or a half day duration depending on the requirements and experience of the departing executive. A half day briefing would typically suit persons who are visiting the host country for a short stay. Full day briefings would be suitable for executives and their families who are to be expatriated for a longer term assignment. Our consultant will plan the briefing to suit work and family commitments. A resource file containing all relevant information on the host country to enable effective cross-cultural dealings will be given to the executive for future reference.

Topics Covered:

The briefing session can cover the following topics .
- History
- Geopolitical and socio-economic issues
- Values, beliefs, customs and traditions
- Social and business etiquette
- Lifestyle and living conditions
- Cross-cultural communications and negotiation skills
- Management issues
- Cultureshock and its ramifications
- Tools for acquiring a foreign language faster and retaining it longer through Accelerative
  Learning.

However, maximum benefit is also achieved when participants are given the opportunity to freely interact with our consultant during these briefing sessions discussing issues which are of prime importance to them.
